Flash Fiction stories are very short stories, usually between 250 and 1000 words. Because of our on-the-go lifestyles and the popularity of the Internet, this writing genre is becoming wildly popular. Each story is meant to be read and enjoyed in one sitting.
The following characteristics of good flash fiction appear in my new book, Flash Fiction Fever.
Characteristics Of Good Flash Fiction (copyrighted material)
F – Fast! A good flash fiction story is a quickie. The reader’s brain fills in the details.
L – Layered. Some flash fiction stories are just snippets of fanciful fantasy, but others might have layers of meaning. These are my favorites.
A – Awesome. Great flash fiction gives you that “a-ha” eureka moment when you read it.
S – Simple. You don’t need a Ph.D. to read and appreciate Flash Fiction. It’s for everybody.
H – Hot. Once you “get” it, you’re hooked. There’s no cure for Flash Fiction Fever!
