I love writing but because my attention shifts I have not been succesful at novels or novelettes. Flash Fiction is perfect for me and others like me with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) who struggle with sitting still and staying on task.
Here are some of my tips for coping with my ADHD:
- Don't think of ADHD as a curse but as a component of your personality and how you process information. It is a part of who you are. Who's to say that people who aren't hyper like us are the abnormal ones!
- Reframe how you think about ADHD. Consider yourself a high-energy individual.
- Buy a digital watch that includes the date. This helped me a lot!
- If you often lose stuff like me, plan ahead and make extra copies. I have a copy of my class schedule taped to the inside of my school binder, notebooks, locker, etc.
- Color code your notebooks and folders by subject. This helps me stay organized. For example, I have a red folder and a red notebook for Math; I have a green folder and a green notebook for Science; etc.
